Jon Stewart pushes federal government to help K2 veterans

WASHINGTON (AP) – Jon Stewart continues his push for federal recognition and medical help for some of the first U.S. troops to respond overseas after the 9/11 attacks. Stewart was part of a conference call on Monday involving veterans and the Defense Department’s assistant secretary for health affairs. He has been a champion for special operations forces who were sent in October 2001 to a former Soviet base in Uzbekistan known as K2 to face the Taliban. Thousands of veterans from K2 suffered from cancer and other problems associated with radiation exposure in the years that followed. Stewart says the troops were the first group deployed in the war on terror, and “they are still on a lazy Susan of bureaucratic nonsense.”

Vance Walker wins for second time on “American Ninja Warrior”

TAMPA (AP) – Vance Walker jokes that the producers of NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” are not happy that he’s taken so much money from them. Walker was the first person in 16 seasons to win the $1 million prize in back-to-back years. Only three people have won the prize at all. Walker says the hardest part was keeping quiet about winning a second time, because the show finished filming a year ago. It was also tough beating his friend and fellow competitor, Caleb Bergstrom, by just over a second. Walker says he wrote “a hefty check” for half the price of a new car for Bergstrom as compensation.

Tourists spot Lily Collins on a Vespa in Rome

ROME (AP) – Lily Collins breezes around Rome on a Vespa for the episodes of “Emily in Paris,” which got the attention of tourists. Collins says not only was she riding around and around on a Vespa, but there was also a car with a Vespa attached that had a camera crew in it. She says once tourists figured out it was her show, it was fun. The second part of the fourth season of “Emily in Paris” streams tomorrow on Netflix.

Jeff Bridges is back for more on “The Old Man”

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Jeff Bridges says working out an action scene for his series “The Old Man” is like trying to do a dance routine. He says it has to be interesting, but it also has to look like it’s happening for the first time. Bridges plays a former CIA agent who is on the run after killing an intruder in his home. The second season of “The Old Man” premieres tomorrow on FX.
