Alvin J. White Jr.

Alvin J. 'Al' White Jr., 82 SMYRNA - Alvin J. "Al" White Jr., of Smyrna, passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, in Christiana Hospital from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was 82. Mr. White was born Nov. 29, 1925, in Sandtown, Md., the son of the late Alvin J. White Sr. and Nealey Dudley White. He worked as a pipefitter for Local 74 in Delaware City for several years before retirement. Mr. White was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a life member of the American Legion David C. Harrison Post 14 in Smyrna. His hobbies included riding motorcycles, NASCAR, taking care of his dogs, Duke and Pete and birds. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Curtis White, Dallas White, and Pauline White. He is survived by a son, Robert C. White of Dover; a daughter, Lorrena J. White of Smiths Grove, Ky.; and a brother, Garvie White of Salisbury, N.C. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Kent County S.P.C.A., 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
