Alvin E. Boone, 78
DOVER - Alvin E. Boone, of Dover, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 78. He was born on Oct. 3, 1930, in Queenstown, Md., to late Harry and Gertrude Smith Boone. He was a member of the VFW, Cooties, American Legion, Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge and was a former member of the Goldsboro, Md., Volunteer Fire Company. Mr. Boone attended school in Maryland. He resided with his family in the Goldbsboro area and then moved to Dover. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 with the 28th Infantry Division as a tanker in Germany and was able to visit Holland during his tour. He started work at Playtex in 1955 and then worked at Reichold Chemicals until he retired. He enjoyed visits to Kent Island, Md., to eat oysters, and watch the boats on the Chesapeake Bay. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Jim, and Ed Boone; five sisters, Anna May Cole, Dorothy Callahan, Eunice Crosse, Marguerite Cole, and Evelyn Cole; great-grandson, Coleman W. Brown; and son-in-law, Carlton W. Smith Jr. He is survived by companion, Joan Towers of Dover; daughters, L. Diane and her husband John Knies of Dover, Joan B. Smith of Goldsboro, Dottie J. Baxter of Sudlersville, Md., and Terry L. and her husband Tommy Coleman of Sudlersville; sister, Mary Seward of Felton; grandchildren, Becki A. and her husband Chris Leslie of Dover, Cheri N. Knies of Wyoming, Megan T. and her husband Schayler Pulleyn of Millington, Md., Cory T. Baxter of Denton, Md., Alexis N. Smith of Goldsboro, Colby T. Baxter of Salisbury, Md., Tina and her husband Danny Brown of Chester, Md., Brad and his wife Julie Coleman of Ridgley, Md., and Travis Coleman of Key West, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Julia and John Leslie, Trey Brown, and Preston Coleman; and many neices and nephews and friends from Goldsboro, the McDonald's coffee group, the Mall walking group, and his neighbors at Luther Towers. Remembrance services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22, in the Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Private burial will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Goldsboro Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 35, Goldsboro, MD.
