MILLVILE, NJ - Alma June Yerger has gone to be with her Lord on May 8, 2016. Alma was born in Millville, New Jersey to the late Charles and Monty Shropshire. She adored her paternal grandparents George and Ella Harris of Port Elizabeth, N.J. and spent part of every summer with them while growing up. This helped shape the beautiful soul that she became. She grew up in a pleasant neighborhood in Dover where neighbors were almost like family. She graduated from Dover H.S. in 1966 and attended Wesley College. Her very first job was working at the old Dairy Queen near her home along with several other kids in the neighborhood. After high school she was employed by Sears as an 18 year old collections person. She then went to work for Delaware Trust Company as a teller where she met her soon to be adoring husband Jim. After marrying she chose to raise her family in the same neighborhood she had grown up in and to be a stay at home Mom for the next 16 years. Once all three children were of school age, she went to work for the Capital School District as a paraprofessional in the Intensive Learning Center. Her final paid job was with Kent County where she first worked in the Inspections office and finally in the Tax Office, she left her job there to care for her Mother at home. Her most loved job came next, babysitting her grandchildren. Alma, loved and adored each and every grandchild and cherished each day she got to spend with them. Alma was a woman of great faith and an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover. She participated in numerous committees over the years in the church and was most recently elected President of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, the beach and the many family visits and trips up to the Yerger family farm in the mountains of Pennsylvania. She simply enjoyed all family, both immediate and extended, and traveling wherever the roads may take her. She was blessed to have the "roads take her" cross country numerous times throughout her lifetime and her last grand adventure took her all the way to Alaska for an amazing visit with some amazing cousins. However, she most enjoyed coming home to sit by the pool in the summer with friends and family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, John Charles and George Shropshire. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, James Yerger of Dover; sons, Christopher James Yerger and Peter Andrew Yerger both of Dover; daughter and son-in-law, Robin Lynn Maracle and Derek Christopher of Camden; brother and sister-in-law, William and Pamela Shropshire of Twin Falls, Idaho; beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Tristin, Victoria, Alec, Chase and Cameron; a special nephew and his family Kevin Shropshire of Cocoa, Fla. and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Thursday May 12, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Friends and family may call from 6:00 p.m. until services begin. In lieu of flower the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, 19901 or Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
