Allan P. 'Sonny' Dickenson, 78
HENDERSON, Md. - Allan P. "Sonny" Dickenson of Henderson died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was 78.
He was born Aug. 10, 1929, in Middleburg, Va., to the late John K. and Janie (Griffin) Dickenson.
Mr. Dickenson was a lifetime resident of the Eastern Shore.
Mr. Dickenson spent his earlier years raising and training racehorses with his father in the Maryland, Delaware and Virginia areas.
He later spent nine years working for the state of Maryland as a prison guard.
Mr. Dickenson spent the last nine years as an employee of Caroline County Public Works, Solid Waste Department, where he was loved and endeared by his coworkers and customers.
He spent several years serving in the National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jane Blazer.
In addition to his wife, Joyce Griffith Dickenson of Henderson, he is survived by three sons, William Dickenson of Frankford, Del., Michael Dickenson of Seaford, Del., and John T. Dickenson of Laurel, Del.; two daughters, Cindy Dickenson of Houston, Texas, and Jennifer DeCarlo of Farmington, Del.; seven stepchildren, Linda Mueller of Fenwick Island, Del., Terry Benson of Greensboro, Penny Jones of Edgewater, Nora Beachman of Ardentsville, Pa., Jack Wernig of Baltimore, Sheila Dugan of Potomac and Raymond Zancan of Harwood; 23 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Sunday in the Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro.
