PORT ORANGE, Fla. - Alice J. Cearley died on Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Port Orange Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Formerly of Frederica, Del., she had been residing with her daughter for the past 12 years in Port Orange. She was 91.
She was born in Crystal Springs, Miss., on Jan. 30, 1917.
Alice was a devout Democrat and held "Democratic Headquarters" at her home for many years.
She was one of the founding members of the Frederica Adult Center and remained a member until her death.
Alice worked for many years at the Bluebird Beauty Shop and eventually opened her own shop, Alice's Beauty Shop.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chief Master Sgt. Lloyd T. Cearley.
Alice is survived by two daughters and a son, Charlotte Gibbons of Port Orange, Carol Smith (Bill) of Seat Pleasant, Md., and Lloyd T. Cearley Jr. of Mocksville, N.C.; her brother, James E. Young (BillieJo) of Jackson, Miss.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her dear caregiver, Evelyn Ellis.
A memorial service will be held in North Carolina at a later date.
Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Frederica Adult Center, in her memory.
