DOVER - Alice Davis of Dover died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, in her home. She was 88.
Mrs. Davis was born Dec. 25, 1918, in Cairo, Ga., daughter of the late David and Nellie Jones.
She moved to Hastings, Fla., where she met and married Willie Davis.
While living in Florida, Mrs. Davis was a member of the Church of God in Christ. Moving to Dover in 1999 to be with her daughter, she became a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. C.V. Holmes. Mrs. Davis was a church mother and served faithfully until her death.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Davis; two sisters, Alma and Catherine Jones; two brothers; John Henry and David Trowell; and a daughter, Annie Mae Varnes.
She is survived by two daughters, Mildred Heath of Dover and Lillian Sippio of Florida; three adopted sons, Omanshi, Antonio and Justin Varnes, all of Dover; a son-in-law, Ronald Heath of Dover; a goddaughter, Camilla Williams of New York; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in New Jerusalem Church, 25 Slaughter St., Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be Monday in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
