Alfred S. Tunnell

Dover - Deacon Alfred Stevenson Tunnell Jr., son of the late Deanner Lee and Alfred S. Tunnell Sr. was born Aug. 13, 1947 in Belltown, Del. Alfred was the third child of six children. Alfred was raised in a Christian home where serving the Lord was vital. He knew the Lord and accepted Him as his personal savior in 1997 under the pastoral care of Pastor Newton A. Pulliam ( New Hope UHC). Alfred met Dorothy Mae Walker in Waco, Texas in 1969 and were married on Feb. 7, 1970. From their union, Alfred S. Tunnell III and Turkessa Y. Tunnell (Harris) were born. Alfred took the love, dedication and responsibility as the father of his daughter Shandolen and Jammie and raised all four of his children with lots of love. Alfred, Dorothy, and the children relocated back to Dover, Del. where they lived until the Lord called him home. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Dorothy Mae Tunnell of 45 years; two sons, Jammie Lee Fields of Dallas, Texas, Alfred S. Tunnell III (Sonja) of Dover, Del.; and daughter, Turkessa Tunnell Harris (Nathan) of Philadelphia, Pa. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Shandolen A. Fields in 2007; his sisters Clarice Boyer (Dwyane) of Millsboro, Del. and Lynn Glass (Larry) of Jonesboro, Ga.; one brother, George Tunnell (Karen) of Lewes, Del. His brothers Hezekiah R. Holmes and Wynell L. Prescott preceded him in death; two sisters-in-law, Marie Brown of Corsica Texas. and Jackie Smith of Arlington, Texas.; nine grandchildren, Isaiah Greene, Tauren Fields, Zachary Green, Camryn Tunnell, Avery Tunnell, Ezekiah Fields, Kerry Fields, Anthony Tunnell and Michal Harris; one great granddaughter Havyn Greene, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, the Light Outreach Church family, UFCM Men's Ministry, friends and former coworkers. The public viewing for Alfred S. Tunnell Jr. will be held on Tuesday, June 23rd from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennie Smith Funeral Home 717 West Division Street Dover, Del. The Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, June 24th at New Hope United Holy Church 2249 Judith Road Hartly, Del. The Interment will be at Sharon Hill Cemetery, Dover, Del.
