Sansbury, Jr., 74
DOVER - Alfred Edgar Sansbury, Jr. passed away on June 13, 2021 at Cadia Capitol Healthcare.
Mr. Sansbury was twice retired, first from the grocery business and then as a U.S. Postal worker. Although initially quiet, he loved to talk about his work at Winn Dixie and the Post Office, and had a witty humor once you got to know him. Mr. Sansbury was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dover, and for many years volunteered in service to his church home. He was a very faithful man who loved to study and discuss the scriptures. Mr. Sansbury spent most of his life in Matthews, N.C. where he was also very involved in his church, McKee Road Baptist Church. For many years he and his beloved wife worked with children's ministry where he was known by many as "Mr. Al". Despite numerous medical issues throughout his life, he was blessed to have beaten the odds many times according to his many doctors.
Mr. Sansbury was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Judith Zimmer Sansbury; and his parents, Helen (Lee) Pierce and Alfred Edgar Sansbury, Sr.; and a brother, Cecil Bryant Sansbury.
He is survived by his daughter, Sonya R. Dyer and her husband Mark of Camden; her grandson, Mark (Mahlon) Dyer, Jr.; his sister, Mary Sansbury Windham and her husband Charles of Timmonsville, S.C.; his brother, Randy O'Neill Sansbury and his wife Lydia of Florence, S.C.; his brother, Carl Corbett "Corby" Pierce, Jr. of Timmonsville, S.C.; family friend, Ernie Jackson of Florence, S.C.; and his dog, Gizmo.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, Del. where there will be a viewing from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church at the above address or to McKee Road Baptist Church, 4300 McKee Road, Charlotte, NC 28270 or to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10thStreet, Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
