DOVER, DE - Alexander J. Shabo passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023.
Mr. Shabo was born on February 23, 1941, to the late Yusef and Shmuni Shabo in Qamishli, Syria.
In 1968, Mr. Shabo moved to the United States and attended Vennard College in Iowa, where he studied history. Mr. Shabo later completed a Master's of Divinity and was ordained as a minister in the Church of the Nazarene. He served as an evangelist throughout the Midwest for several years. He later moved to California where he was a restaurant manager for Little Joe's Diner and continued his ministry as an evangelist. Six years later, he was assigned to a pastoral position in Smyrna, Delaware. Mr. Shabo later became a sales manager at Dover Volkswagen, where he worked for 21 years. Mr. Shabo ended his career as a linguist, using his Arabic language expertise to assist the United States military in Iraq, where he served with great honor.
Mr. Shabo loved God, family, and country. His great love for his Savior Jesus Christ shaped his entire life, and he loved sharing the gospel to all. He never met a stranger and showed respect and love to people from all walks of life. He enjoyed sports very much, and his favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the Boston Celtics. He enjoyed travelling and visited almost every state in the USA. He loved going to Spence's sale to find bargains and had many friends there.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his sister, Samira.
Mr. Shabo is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lillian Shabo, and their three daughters, Zaynah, Magedah, and Lilianah, as well as Lilianah's husband, Rhoeyce, and their children, Junia, Elias, and Claudia.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2023, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd. (Rt. 10). Friends gather one hour prior. Burial will follow the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Camden, DE.
