Alberta Agnes Lyles Bays

DOVER - Alberta Agnes Lyles Bays, 92, completed her walk on this earth Aug. 14, 2011, in Dover. She was born July 18, 1918, in Jacksonville, Fla., daughter of the late John Dawkins Lyles and Elsa Agnes Reinoehl Lyles. She grew up and attended school in Jacksonville where she graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. She also graduated from Florida State University (formerly Florida State College for Women). She was a teacher in Duval County, Fla. She married Wayne Albert Bays on Jan. 31, 1942. She loved her family, church and many friends and enjoyed traveling, crocheting, knitting and embroidery. Preceding her in death were her husband, Wayne Bays; three sons, Wayne Jr., Mark and Keith; one daughter, Waynetta Talley; parents; sisters, Augustine Brackett and Martha Hodges; and brother, Nelson Lyles. Surviving are a brother, John D. Lyles (Mary Anne) of Interlachen, Fla.; two sons, Bruce Bays of West Union, S.C., and Brian Bays of Annapolis, Md.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12 at the Grace Presbyterian Church, 350 McKee Road, Dover. Reception will follow for friends and family. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Grace Presbyterian Church, 350 McKee Rd., Dover, DE 19904 in memory of Alberta Bays.
