Eckels, Sr., 82 Dover - Albert Jesse Eckels, Sr. passed away, Friday Aug. 8, 2014 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilmington. Mr. Eckels was born Sept. 22, 1931 in Belleville, Illinois to the late Fred Eckels and Viola Mann Eckels. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Eckels worked in construction for many years as a superintendent in Arizona. He was a member of the Mamie Warren Center in Kenton and Townsend Baptist Church. Mr. Eckels enjoyed spending time his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William Fred Eckels, Jr. and Clifford Dale Eckels. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Deborah Waskow Eckels of Dover; son, Albert J. Eckels, Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters, Jerice Eckels of Phoenix, Ariz., and Julia Ann Eckels of S.C. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2014 at the Mamie Warren Center, 1775 Wheatleys Pond Road, Smyrna, DE 19977 (Rt. 300). Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Mamie Warren Center. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
