DOVER - Alan 'Al' D. Thorley passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at home with his beloved family at his bedside. Alan lost his hard fought battle against Extrapulmonary Small Cell Cancer. Alan was the first born of his late parents, David and Gloria Thorley on Oct. 30, 1949 in Nashua, N.H. Al grew up in Stoneham, Mass. He served his country proudly in the United State Air Force for 11 years. He just recently retired on May 1, 2013 from the Delaware Department of Corrections as a Probation and Parole officer where he worked as a street unit officer. He loved his job immensely and was part of the close brotherhood of fellow officers. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and spending time with his family and close friends. He will be greatly missed. Al is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Teresa "Terry" Thorley of Dover; his sons, Alan Truk (Gina) Thorley of Texas, Josh (Brandy) Thorley of Calif.; brothers Doug (Beth) Thorley of Calif.; Stephen (Gayle) Thorley of N.Y., Mark (Dianne) Thorley of Texas, Dave (Tresa) Thorley of Calif.; sisters Susan (Wayne) Hess of N.H., Diana (John) Farley of Mass.; grandchildren Kyle and McKayla of Texas and Kjerston, Austin, and Angelina of Calif.; numerous other relatives and close friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #3, Kitts Hummock Road, Dover, DE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the NRA of America, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030; or to Seasons Hospice 4755 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.
