TUCKAHOE NECK, Md. - Alan Butler of Tuckahoe Neck, near Denton, passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 77.
Born at home on April 23, 1930, Mr. Butler was the son of the late Wilbert Perry and Hulda (Andrew) Butler.
He lived on the same farm all of his life.
Mr. Butler retired from dairy farming in 1973, at which time he started Butler's Clam Shells. He continued sharecropping until the late 1990s when he became a caretaker for Ann Marvin until his death.
He lived a simple life. He enjoyed animals, gardening, bowling, dancing, sharing a good joke and playing the Maryland Lottery.
Mr. Butler was a member of the Harrington (Del.) Moose Lodge 534
He is survived by two sons, Michael Butler and his wife Elaine of Easton and Perry Butler and his wife Wendy of Greenwood, Del.; one daughter, Linda Lansinger of Grasonville; six grandchildren, Michael Butler Jr. and his wife Missy of Denton, Michelle Butler of Cambridge, Jime Dawes and his wife Sara of Stevensville, Jason Dawes and his girlfriend Shea of Chester, and Haleigh Butler and Nicholas Butler, both of Greenwood; five great-grandchildren, Randall Butler, Sydney Butler, Mick Butler, Jenna Dawes and Olivia Morrison; seven sisters, Margaret Reed of Denton, Louise Schmotzer of Denton, Mary Sewell of Florida, Charlotte Morris of Glen Allen, Va., Doris Wood Sharp of Denton, Barbara Tortello of Cambridge and Ruth Hearn of Claymont, Del.; one brother, Cornelius Butler of Denton; a brother-in-law, Everett Marvel of Easton; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Butler of Roanoke, Va.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Jacob Butler, George W. Butler, Buddy Butler, Freddy Butler and Gary Butler; and three sisters, Addie Roth, Martha Marvel and Elizabeth Butler.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Moore Funeral Home, 12 S. Second St., Denton, where friends may call one hour earlier. Friends may also call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Interment will be in the Denton Cemetery.
