DOVER - Agnes Marjorie Watson Marsh departed this life on Sunday Mar. 19, 2017. She was the third daughter of the late Emma Louvenia and John Brown Watson.
Agnes was a graduate of Knoxville College and the University of Pittsburgh, where she attained first a Bachelor's and then a Master's degree in Education. She taught for more than 50 years in various cities including Indianapolis, Ind., Atlanta, Ga., Omaha, Neb., Nairobi, Kenya and Okinawa, Japan.
She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She was an active member of her community, involved in educational, civic and church endeavors. Most recently she was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Dover, but she greatly valued the memories and friendships she shared with members of Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church of Louisville, Ky., the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, Blacksburg, Va., as well as Witherspoon Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis, Ind. In years past she was actively involved in the Presbyterian Women's Organization both at the local and national levels. Agnes was an avid reader and she always enjoyed playing Bridge, Canasta and Bid Whist.
She married the Reverend Clinton M. Marsh in 1966. Together they traveled the world. Her wanderlust continued even after Clinton's death. She has visited every continent in the world! Agnes' first marriage was to Dr. William T. Chapman. To that union, her two sons were born; William Theophilus, III, Esq. and the Rev. Jon Terrell Chapman.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton; her two sisters, Yolande and Anna Elizabeth; as well as her son, William; her step-son, Walter Marsh; and her niece, Gary Ann Giovanni.
There is no doubt that Agnes' witty, charming presence will be missed.
She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Jon T. Chapman (Pat); her nieces, Nikki Giovanni (Virginia Fowler) and Allison Ragan (Beau); her nephew, Haynes Ford, Jr. (Delores); her sister-in-law, Ruth Claytor Marsh; several grand nieces, nephews and close friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Dover on Friday, May 26, 2017, at 11 a.m. Her cremains will rest with her husband, Clinton in Blacksburg, Va.
