DOVER - Wolfgang "Horst" Gloede passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 26, 2022, after a short illness.
He was born May 13, 1936, in Milford, New Jersey, to the late Herman and Augusta Einsele Gloede.
Mr. Gloede spent his early years in Nutley, New Jersey, and graduated in 1954 from West Orange High School. He then went to vocational school to become a Machinist. He worked in Plainfield, New Jersey, for Lockheed Electronics, a subsidiary of Lockheed Aircraft, and retired in 1996. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Air National Guard Reserves for four years. In 1968 he met his wife, Lorrie, and they lived in Piscataway, Scotch Plains, and Bridgewater, New Jersey, before moving to Dover in 2007. He loved spending time in his vegetable garden and enjoyed skiing in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. He is a former member of the Short Hills Outing and Ski Clubs and Central Club (Summit, N.J.)
In addition to his parents; Mr. Gloede was preceded in death by his brother, Herman Gloede; and sister, Lottie Schoen.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lorraine O. Gloede, of Dover; his daughters, Lise Gloede, of Falls Church, Va., Karin Plodinec, of Bristow, Va.; and grandson, Andrew C. Plodinec.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2022, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 113 Lotus St., Dover, Del. Friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be the following day, Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at Graceland Memorial Park, 1900 Galloping Hill Road, Kenilworth, N.J.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to St. John's Lutheran Church.
