Wm. Maynard Porter Sr.

Porter, Sr., 97 ROCK HALL, Md. - Wm. Maynard Porter, Sr. died on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Chester River Manor. He was born on Sept. 27, 1915 to Wm. Lloyd Porter and Ida V. Mench. He lived most of his life in Rock Hall, Md. Maynard graduated from Chestertown High School in 1933. He attended Washington College on an athletic scholarship. He worked as a manager of Chestertown Defense Plant for many years and retired from New Jersey Fireworks plant after 30 years. He was a faithful member of the Rock Hall Methodist Church. He was also a softball coach inducted into Maryland Softball Hall of Fame, and avid pool player and soccer coach. He enjoyed basketball and track. He is survived by his children, Jean "Peanut" Darrah of Chestertown, Md., Maynard "Sonny" Porter, Jr. of Dover, Carol Cox of Crumpton, Larry "Butch" Porter of Chestertown, Md., Paige Montgomery of Warwick, Patsy Whitely of Chestertown, Md., Norman "Nutty" Porter of Rock Hall, Md., Rusty Porter of Rock Hall, Md., Louis "Happy" Porter of Rock Hall, Md., Margaret "Nugget" Porter of La., Debbie Dilk of Az., and Pat Riggleman of Chestertown, Md.; he is also survived by 30 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by four grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was predeceased by his children, Ann Startt, Barbara McGuire, and Robert Porter; he was also preceded in death by a bother, Herman "Goose" Gosnell; his first wife, Clara Fisher; second wife, Norma Knotts; and third wife, Virginia Porter; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. 130 Speer Road Chestertown, Md., where relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Chester Cemetery following the service.
