HARRINGTON - Winston A. Linton, of Harrington, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, in Bayhealth-Milford Medical Center. He was 82.
Mr. Linton was born in Virginia, the son of the late Adolphus and Virgie (Tatman) Linton.
He signed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the age of 17 and then joined the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II.
Mr. Linton worked at the DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford for 37 years before retiring in 1987.
He served six years as the mayor of Harrington and also served as a city councilman for the city of Harrington.
Mr. Linton was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Harrington, where he had served as a trustee and on the church council, a member of the Harrington Lions Club and was a member and past commander of the Seaford American Legion Post 6.
Mr. Linton also enjoyed attending his coffee club with his friends, that started out at the old HyGrade and ended up at the local Arby's.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Doris Exley Linton; twosons, Dale Linton of Seaford and Dana Linton and his wife Donna of Kensington, Md.; three brothers, Daniel Linton and his wife Beatrice of Seaford, Charles Linton and his wife Ada of Virginia and Samuel Linton and his wife Audrey of York, Pa.; a special niece, Judy Knutstad of Milford; a special nephew, Raymond Zelano, his wife Donna and their daughter Natalie, of Houston; two nephews, Joe Zelano and his wife Terry of New Castle and David Downes and his wife Cora of Milford; a niece, Connie Wood of Milford; and an adopted daughter, Debbie Hilton of Felton.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Trinity United Methodist Church, 63 Commerce St., Harrington, where friends may call after 1 p.m.
The Rev. Jerry Howard will officiate.
Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery, North Walnut Street, Milford.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Trinity United Methodist Church, 63 Commerce St., Harrington, DE 19952.
