William Wakefield Lockley, 71

DOVER - William Wakefield Lockley of Dover departed this life on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, in Silver Lake Nursing Home, Dover. He was 71.

He was the son of the late Leroy Lockley Sr. and Pearl Nutt.

William attended the public school system in Charles County, Md.

He was self-employed as a carpenter.

William was born and raised in Whitestone, Va.

Part of his life he lived in Maryland and Pennsylvania, but his last days were lived in Dover.

William was a loving man and friend to everyone.

He loved being around family and friends, having a good time.

He especially loved eating seafood and chicken, smoking pipes and drinking Pepsi.

William enjoyed helping people work on projects.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Samuel Lockley and Leroy Lockley Jr.; and daughter, Diane Prout.

He leaves to cherish his memories four daughters, Mary Cain and her husband James of Dover, Lillian Carter and her husband Robert of LaPlata, Md., Erna Fenwick and her husband Jonathan of Waldorf, Md., and Wanda Mitchell and her husband Lovell of Killeen, Texas; two sons, William Lockley Jr. of Waldorf, and Michael Lockley and his wife Antoinette of Waldorf; son-in-law, Melvin Prout of Indian Head, Md.; sisters, Jean Donley of Newburg, Md., Elvin Lockley of S.C.; brother, Brian Lockley of Whitestone, Va.; aunts, Grace Nutt of Newburg, Md., Annie Gibbs of Woodbridge, Va.; uncle, James Nutt of New York, N.Y.; grandchildren, Eric, Matthew, Derico, Brian, Robert Jr., Janay, Clay, Brandon, Kayee, Daris, and De'ja; great-grandchildren, Mykelle, Gianna, Oceana; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Viewing will be from 5-7 Tuesday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.

Services will be noon Wednesday at Holy Ghost Church in Newburg, Md., where friends may view two hours prior.

Burial will be in Holy Ghost Church Cemetery.
