William Joseph Renninger, 65

MAGNOLIA - Retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. William Joseph Renninger, of Magnolia, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 65.

Born Dec. 26, 1942, in Lewistown, Pa., William was the son of Virginia Cummings and Albert Paul Schlegel.

He graduated in 1961 from Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown, Pa.

William served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was stationed at Fort Dix, N.J.; Fort Jay, Staten Island, N.Y.; and Saigon, South Vietnam. He retired at Dover Air Force Base with the rank of master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service. His tour included Dover; Rhein-Main; Frankfurt, Germany; and Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas.

After his military career, he worked at Playtex for 10 years as a forklift operator, retiring in 2000.

William was a member of the Architectural Committee and the Neighborhood Watch Misty Pines Home Owners Association.

He enjoyed college and professional football, especially the Eagles and Penn State.

William is survived by his wife, Linda (Shiffer) Renninger; a daughter, Amy Maracle and her husband Craig of Felton; a brother, Michael Renninger of Mifflintown; a sister, Joyce Schlegel of Port Royal, Pa.; and a half-sister, Pat Renninger Bell of Tyson Hill, Mifflintown.

A memorial gathering will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 16 in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, 1151 Walker Road, Suite 202, Dover, DE 19904; or to USO World Headquarters, Dept. WS, P.O. Box 96860, Washington, D.C. 20090-6860.
