CLAYTON - William Joseph Long, Sr. passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 at Kent General Hospital.
Mr. Long was born Jan. 21, 1941 in Baltimore, Md. to the late John Long and Stella Pulasik Long.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War for two years. After the service he delivered milk to homes and stores for Royal Dunlogan Dairy throughout Maryland and Pennsylvania. In 1966, he began his cooking career at the Deutches Haus restaurant in Baltimore and ended as the head chef of the Sheraton Hotel in Clarksburg W.Va. in 1982. He subsequently trained and worked as a butcher for Wendling Meat Co. in Buckhannon, W.Va. He retired at the age of 62 from Dawson Bus Services, Inc. as a coach driver where he enjoyed traveling the country. Mr. Long enjoyed, reading, traveling, and watching his favorite football teams the Baltimore Colts & Ravens and the West Virginia Mountaineers with his beloved canine companions by his side. He was also an accomplished bowler for over 30 years who threw more than a couple perfect 300 games.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret V. Venkor Long; and daughter, Theresa Anna Marie Long.
He is survived by his son, William J. Long, Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; daughters, Dolores Cichocki of Bremerton, Wash., Stephanie C. Schnaible and her husband Eric of Ft. Worth, Texas, Margaret E. Brune and her husband Michael of Dundalk, Md., Henriette F. Morris and her husband Nolan of Dover, Heidi A. Bronersky and her husband Bart of Clayton; brother, Benjamin Long of Baltimore, Md.; sister, Dorothy Long of Orlando, Fla.; sixteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 600 S. Conkling St., Baltimore, MD 21224. Friends may call one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to The Humane Society of Harford County, 2208 Connolly Rd., Fallston, MD 21047.
