William "Bill" John Kershaw, Jr. passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023 in Dover, DE. Bill was born on September 30, 1933 in Milford, to the late Julia and William Kershaw, Sr.
Bill was raised in Wilmington, where he attended P.S. DuPont High School. After graduation he attended Goldey-Beacom College where he played basketball and earned his Degree in Accounting. It was there that he met his wife of 70 years, Joyce Cordrey. He said it was love at first sight for him, and they married in 1953. After graduating college, Bill worked at DuPont Company until he went into the Army in 1954, serving for two years. After returning from the Army, he began his career in banking at Farmers Bank in Laurel, DE while continuing to serve in the Army National Guard. He was transferred to Dover, DE in 1966 where he has lived with his family ever since.
His family was everything to him, and he was vocal about wanting them to all live in Delaware, which he called "God's Country". Bill was very active throughout the community and with his family. As a boy he was a member of Boy Scouts Troop 23 Wilmington, DE. He continued with the Boy Scouts until he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was in the Kiwanis Club in Laurel and served as President for one year. He was a member of the Farmers Bank Quarter Century Club. He served as a member of the Capitol School Board, including 1 year as President. He was also a member of the Colonial Tennis Club. After retirement he enjoyed working at the John Dickinson Mansion where he would demonstrate and operate the loom for groups and tourists. He received recognition for five years of service for Historical and Cultural Affairs. And he was a member of the P. S. DuPont High School Class of 1950 Reunion Committee and organized reunions until recent years.
In addition to his parents; Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Betty McGrory; and his grandson, Jordan Kershaw.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Joyce; children, Lynn Pearson, Kim (Herb) Glanden, and Mark Kershaw, all of Dover; grandchildren, Cole Pearson, Julie (Matt) Rotuno, David Pearson, Jessie (Steve) McNary, Dan (Amanda) Pearson; great grandchildren, Sophia, Katelyn, Devan, Bella, Hunter, Violet, and William; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be private.
