SEAFORD - William J. Batson, of Concord, Del. passed away Friday, May 29, 2015. William was born in Atlanta, Del. to the late Jeremiah and Hattie Marie (Ricketts) Batson. There were a total of 15 siblings. William Batson was a member of Mt. Calvary AME Church in Seaford. He retired six years ago after 35 years as a Heavy Equipment Dredge Operator off the coast of New Jersey. Boating, fishing and hunting were his primary hobbies. Whenever possible, he included his children and grandchildren in some aspect of these activities. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife, Reverend Idola W. Batson; three adult children from a previous union: Alonzo (Regina), Thurman Batson, and Alvenia Reese (Tony); siblings, Louis (Rosalie) Batson, Pearl (Leon) Lofland, Doris Ann (Jural) Butler, Addie Bolden, George (Vanessa) Batson, Jerry Batson, and Shirley Batson; and five grandchildren. Viewing will be from 3 to 5 on Friday, June 5, 2015, at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 437 North Front Street, Seaford, Delaware 19973. The Homegoing Celebration is at 11:00 a.m. on June 6 at Mt. Calvary AME Church, 25206 School Rd, Seaford, Delaware 19973, (302) 629-6880. Join the family for a Continental Breakfast one hour prior to the service.
