DENTON, MD - William "Bill" J. Neal Sr., died Saturday, June 20, 2009, in Memorial Hospital, Easton, Md. He was 76. Born in Denton, Mr. Neal was the son of the late Wingate Neal and Edna Elizabeth Vickery Neal. He was a 1949 graduate of Caroline High School in Denton. Mr. Neal was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army. He had been a farmer all of his life and was a 4-H All Star and was a 4-H Leader. He also worked for E.I. DuPont in Seaford, for 41 years as a Nylon Operator, before retiring in 1991. He then worked for Shore Home Care for five years and then for Tanglewood Conservatories in Denton. He volunteered for Meals-On-Wheels, was active in the Choptank Ruritan Club, and had served on the 4-H Park Board. He had also served several years as an Election Judge in Caroline County and was a member of the Caroline American Legion Post 29. His hobbies included his love of John Deere tractors, woodworking, and NASCAR. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Allen and Anna Lee. Mr. Neal is survived by his wife, Elma Jean Neal of Denton, whom he married on Jan. 25, 1953; two daughters, Carolyn N. Duvall of Royal Oak, Md., and Patricia N. Griffith of American Corner, near Federalsburg; two sons, William J. Neal Jr. and his wife Sandi of Hobbs, near Denton, and Sheldon M. Neal and his wife Anne of Denton; one brother, Edward Neal of Denton; two grandchildren, Rob Duvall and Devon Duvall; two step-granddaughters, Tammi Swartzentruber and Alyssa Robison; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24 at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton, where friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening. The interment will be in the Denton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sending memorial donations to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629; or to the Choptank Ruritan Club, C/O Mr. Preston Smith, P.O. Box 75, Denton, MD 21629.
