William F. Towner, 80

William F. Towner of Dover died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 80.

Mr. Towner was born Oct. 28, 1926, in Byron Center, Mich., son of the late Bob G. and Laurel G. Foster Towner.

He was a 1955 graduate of Michigan Technological University.

Mr. Towner served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He retired from General Foods in 1984 after 29 years as a mechanical engineer.

He enjoyed bird carving, woodworking, cooking, photography and traveling.

Mr. Towner was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover and Masonic Lodge 7.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James J. Towner; and a sister, Frances Julia Towner.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara J. (Nash) Towner; a son and a daughter-in-law, Douglas F. and Rebecca Towner of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a daughter and a son-in-law, Sheri J. Towner and Glenn Gabrelcik of Dover; a sister, Janet DeGennaro of Byron Center; two grandchildren, Michael David and Rachael Marie; and several nieces and nephews.

A Masonic service will be 7 p.m., Wednesday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Grand Rapids, Mich.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2111 North Oak Park Avenue, Chicago, IL 60707; or the American Lung Association of Delaware, 1021 Gilpin Avenue, Suite 202, Wilmington, DE 19806.
