William F. Godwin Sr.

GEORGETOWN - William F. Godwin Sr., of Georgetown, passed Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the Delaware Hospice Center, in Milford. William was born in Georgetown on April 15, 1938. William was preceded in death by his parents Horace Luther and Margaret Catherine Godwin. Mr. Godwin retired from A.P. Croll & Son in 2010 where he was employed since 1989. William had his own Septic Tank Business In the late 60's early 70's, he was also employed by DuPont Company of Seaford. William was proud to have been an E-6 in the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. Mr. Godwin also served as a truck driver for United Van lines, was a member of the Jaycees and a 20 year member of the Moose Club. William was the seventh of ten children having been preceded in death by Eddie, Earl, Albert, Jimmy, Betty and survived by Walter, Anna, Katie, and Robert. William is also survived by his wife of 45 years, Maria H. Godwin; daughter, Cecilia Newson and her husband Jeff and children Brian Newson, Ashley Collins and her husband John Collins, George Godwin and son Brandon, Sharon Weller and her Husband Marty and son Bryce, Sabrina Knight, William Godwin Jr. and Susan Godwin and children Jarad and Julia. From Sparterbarg, S.C., three children from his first marriage, Sherry, Teresa and William Dale Godwin, also survive him. William is also survived by Dr. Victoria Fonke of North Carolina and several other nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, March 28, 2011, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, with visitation Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. Interment will be 2 p.m., on Monday, at Delaware Veteran's Memorial Park, Patriots Way, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions made to the Godwin Burial Funds, in care of the funeral home, to assist in defraying expenses.
