William Edward Dashields, 48

LOWER FAIRMOUNT, Md. - William Edward Dashields of Lower Fairmount passed from this earth and entered into his Heavenly home, safe in the arms of the Lord and Savior, Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, surrounded by the angels and his loving wife, Emma R. Dashields, and family. He was 48.

William was the son of the late Dorothy and Charles Dashields and had given his heart, body and soul to the Lord on Aug. 13, 2007.

He was a graduate of Washington High School in Princess Anne, and was an enlisted member of the U.S. Army, having served some 16 years before he received an honorable discharge.

As a member of the military he received numerous commendations for good conduct, marksmanship, professional development and Army achievement to name a few.

While a member of the U.S. Army, William was afforded the opportunities to travel extensively to many areas of the world, including his favorites of Germany and Saudi Arabia.

After his discharge from the military, in addition to being in the National Guard on a part time and as needed basis, William worked full time for Plymouth Tubing for many years and prior to his illness and passing, he was a dedicated employee of Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover, where he obtained the rank of sergeant. He was so dedicated that he was known for reporting to work one hour earlier than his scheduled shift time.

William was a man who loved his family. He could spend hours playing with his children and just doing "dad" things.

Emma was the love of his life and he will be sincerely missed by his church family, The Apostolic Revival Center, and his ECI family.

In addition to his devoted wife of 24 years, Emma Dashields, he is survived by two sons, William Jr. of Ft. Jackson, S.C., and Virgil of Crisfield; five daughters, LaShawn Dashields, Danielli Dashields, Lisa Dashields, Andrea Dashields and Whitney Dashields, all of Lower Fairmount; three brothers, Wayne and his wife Pat Dashields of Cheverly, Charles Dashields of Baltimore, and Frank and his wife Cynthia Dashields of Salisbury; three sisters, Henrietta and her husband Willie Turner of Salisbury, Dottie and her husband Sam Akinteye of Forestville, and Vivian and her husband Alvis Hayman-Schoolfield of Princess Anne; four aunts, Doris Jones and Sarah Hall, both of Salisbury, Lettie Dashields of Princess Anne, and Betty Hayman of Willingsboro, N.J.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Marie Maddox of Lower Fairmont; five brothers-in-law, James and his wife Gloria Maddox of Baltimore, Robert Maddox of Fairmount, Arthur and his wife Sharon Maddox of Upper Fairmount, Thomas and his wife Dena Maddox of Princess Anne, and Russell and his wife Kim Maddox of Eden; three sisters-in-law, Mabel and her husband George Collins of Lower Fairmount, Maggie and her husband Elwood Collins of Lower Fairmount, and Marie and her husband Levi Corbin of Princess Anne; his godmother, who was like a surrogate mother to him, Annie Mae Milbourne of Westover; three godchildren, Monica Jones of Fairmont, William Christy of Fairmont, and Douglas Robinson Jr. of Arkansas; his best buddy of many years, Granville Maddox of Princess Anne; his devoted niece who was his caregiver during his illness, Patricia Brown of Lower Fairmount; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Ella Fitzgerald Center of Performing Arts, on the Campus of University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. this evening at St. James United Methodist Church, Westover, and from noon to 12:45 p.m. prior to the funeral on Saturday.

Floral deliveries will be accepted from 2 to 4:30 p.m. today at St. James Church.

Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Hebron.

A reception will be held for family and friends at the Greenwood Elementary School, Princess Anne, immediately after the interment.

Arrangements by Deborah E. Harris-Nock Funeral Services, Greenwood.
