William E. Chambers Jr., 91 LA PALMA, Calif. - William E. Chambers Jr., of La Palma, formerly of Kitts Hummock Beach, Del., died Wednesday, April 28, 2010. He was 91. Mr. Chambers was born Aug. 24, 1918, in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Anna Heineman Chambers and William E. Chambers Sr. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. He served in the US Army in the South Pacific during WWII, and in the US Air Force in Korea. He retired from the USAF as a Master Sergeant, and then from DAFB Civil Service. Mr. Chambers was a member of the American Legion Post #2, Walter L. Fox, Dover, VFW, Post #3238 and the DAV Chapter 1, Camden. Mr. Chambers was a fan of all sports especially the Eagles and Phillies. He also enjoyed horse racing and fishing in the Delaware Bay. He had a round bush in his yard at Kitts Hummock Beach that had a Smiley Face painted on it that everyone enjoyed. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Bampfield Chambers in 1989. He is survived by his son, David Chambers and his wife Sheryl; and granddaughter, Heidi Chambers, all of La Palma. Memorial services will be held in Dover at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to DAV, 183 South Street, Camden, DE 19934. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
