TOWNSEND - William A. "Bill" Steller Sr., of Townsend, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in Christiana CareChristiana Hospital, Newark, after a long and courageous battle with emphysema. He was 74.

Born on April 20, 1933, in Taylors Bridge, he was the son of the late J. Delbert and Mary (Alfree) Steller.

Bill was a lifelong resident of Taylors Bridge and prior to becoming ill enjoyed farming. He was a former deputy sheriff with the New Castle County.

Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved to go crabbing, enjoyed going to the beach house in Rehoboth Beach and took great pride in his vegetable garden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin infant sons, Carl and Carlton Steller.

He will sadly be missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Virginia (Shahan) Steller; his five children, David Steller and his wife Betty of Smyrna, Cathy Mannering of Townsend, Linda Wheeler and her husband Larry of Smryna, William Steller, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Millington, Md., and Lori Sherwood and her husband Glen of Smyrna; a brother, Jack Steller of Newark; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where family and friends may visit from 1-2:30 p.m.

Interment will follow in Old Drawyers Cemetery, Odessa.

Instead of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Friendship Church, c/o Pauline Shockley, 986 Taylors Bridge Road, Townsend, DE 19734.
