William A. 'Sonny' Grieco

William A. 'Bill' 'Sonny' Grieco, 73

DOVER - William A. "Bill" "Sonny" Grieco, of Dover, formerly of Aston, Pa., Ocean City, N.J., and Kennett Square, Pa., died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 73.

He was born Oct. 3, 1934, in Philadelphia, son of the late Lawrence and Caroline (Morrone) Grieco.

In 1947, he moved to Delaware County, Pa., and graduated from Eddystone High School in 1952. From 1954-55 he played Class B semipro football for Feltonville Fire Co., which won the championship in 1955.

Mr. Grieco served his country proudly in the U.S. Army for two years, serving one year in Italy.

He played fast-pitch softball in Italy and won the All Service Championship in 1955.

In the 1970s, Mr. Grieco played for and managed Bridgewater Farm in the Aston Residential League, where he won two championships and was the president of the league for three years.

He also managed and played for hardball and softball teams, and again playing softball in over 55 and over 60. Until his retirement at age 65, he played in leagues for Italian Village.

Mr. Greico also worked for Scott Paper, Franklin Mint and CIGNA.

He loved pinochle and softball and touring the Southwestern U.S.

Mr. Greico enjoyed attending auto racing, Phillies games and watching football.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Anne L. Grieco; a son, William J. Grieco and his wife Julia Grieco; a sister, Marie Mauro; and grandchildren, Anna R. Miron and Victoria L. Grieco.

Services and burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Arrangements are by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.
