FREDERICA, Del. - Waltraud E. Owens (Wille) passed away after a lengthy illness on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at her residence.
Born in Celle, Germany, she was number 13 out of 17 children to the late Heinrich and Augusta Frederic Wille.
She met Virgil Owens during his tour of duty in Germany and they would marry in 1950 and would move to Phoenix, AZ the same year. They moved around the world many times and then settled down in DE in 1966.
During her time in Lincoln, NE she started a career with the recreation center on base and would continue her position on Dover AFB, retiring as program director of the REC Center after 28 years.
She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, crocheting, flower arranging, and cherished time spent with her family.
Besides her parents; she was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Massengill; and a grandson, Robert Lee Thomas.
Waltraud is survived by two daughters, Ruth Thomas and Heide Owens; six grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m., February 24, 2022 at The Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, Dover, DE where a visitation will begin at 10 a.m.
Committal Services will be 11 a.m., March 10, 2022 in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
