MILFORD - Walter Wilkerson passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at home. Walter was born in Philadelphia, son of the late Fred W. and Cora (Purcell) Wilkerson. He worked for the Delaware Department of Transportation for 28 years, retiring in 1988. He was an avid hunter, loved his dogs and enjoyed gardening. Walter was a member of Sardis U.M. Church, Green Briar Hunt Club, Eastern Shore Fox Hunting Club and the Milford Senior Center. In addition to his parents, Walter is preceded in death by one grandson; two sisters; and five brothers. He is survived by his wife, Lillian J. (McAllister) Wilkerson; a daughter, Janet Joseph of Lincoln; two sons, Clarence Wilkerson and wife Donna, of Greenwood and Wayne Wilkerson and wife Debbie, of Arkansas; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, July 12, 2013 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, with visitation after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Walter's memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or Sardis U.M.
