HARRINGTON - Walter W. Winkler, of Harrington, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. He was 87.
Born in Hunters Land, N.Y., he was the son of the late Frank and Elsie Winkler.
Mr. Winkler was a local farmer all his life.
He enjoyed working and worked all the time.
Mr. Winkler had several tractor-trailers that he used to haul his grain and produce. He enjoyed driving his trucks whenever he got the chance.
Mr. Winkler met his wife, a nurse, while visiting his brother's child in the hospital.
Mr. Winkler loved to go pheasant hunting in South Dakota and he also enjoyed rabbit hunting.
He always had a smile on his face, but whenever the opportunity arose, he enjoyed fussing at you, but ultimately he would give you the shirt off of his back.
Friends and family loved to set him up just to get him fussing.
Mr. Winkler was a member of the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Delaware Farm Bureau, and a former member of Agway.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alice Joan Winkler of Harrington; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Janice E. Winkler of Felton, and William and Debbie Winkler of Felton; brother, Francis Winkler of Harrington; grandchildren and their spouses, Brandi and Dewane Geise, Shelly and Tim Simpson, and Michael Winkler and his fiancee, Carey Dulin; and great-grandchildren Brooke, Kathryn, and Travis.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Raughley Hill Road, Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
Instead of flowers, donations may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 190 Raughley Hill Road, Harrington, DE 19952.
Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.
