Walter W. Moore

FELTON - Walter W. Moore, of Felton, passed away on Jan. 9, 2011, at home. He was 73. Walter was born in Dover, the son of the late Walter H. and Mariam (Waldman) Moore. He was a veteran of the U.S Navy. After the Navy, he worked at the Dover Power Plant and then as a research technician for General Foods. After retiring in 1988 he worked part-time for Felton hardware for 5 years and JenMor Florist as a delivery person and he owned the Canterbury Aquarium. He was a life member of the Felton Fire Co, former president and held several offices and was a board member. He was the chairman of the Spring & Fall Fire Co. Suppers for 30 years. He was also a member of the Felton U.M. Church, President of the Felton Alumni Assoc., president of the Canterbury Cemetery Assoc. and former President of the Felton Little League and had coached Little League for many years. His hobbies incyluded collecting Lionel trains, playing softball and house painting and staining and was an avid Phillies Fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George Moore. Walter is survived by his wife of 47 years, Evelyn (Walters) Moore; two children, David W. Moore and his wife Kelly and Mark S. Moore, all of Canterbury; two grandchildren, Tyler M. Moore and Taylor M. Moore; one sister, Ann Chambers of Greenwood; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services with full fireman honors will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Felton Fire Hall, Main St., Felton. Visitation will be held Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fire Hall. Interment will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. Contributions may be made to; Felton Vol. Fire Co, P.O. Box 946, Felton, DE 19943; or Canterbury Cemetery Corp., 10102 Canterbury Rd., Felton, DE 19943; or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Services handled by Berry-Short Funeral Home, Felton.
