HARMONY, Md. - Walter M. Pilkenton, of Harmony, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at the Memorial Hospital in Easton. He was 65. The son of the late Millard Franklin Pilkenton and Ima Maie Holman Pilkenton, Mr. Pilkenton was born in North Wilkesboro, N.C. He came to the mid-shore area in the late 1950's. Mr. Pilkenton was a U.S. Army veteran. He had worked as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator for Johnson's Logging in Easton for 30 years, retiring in 2005. Mr. Pilkenton is survived by his wife of 41 years, Roberta Kay Pilkenton of Harmony; one sister, Peggy Bennett of Mountain City, Tenn.; four sister-in-laws, Shelby Jean Meek of Seaford, Del., Sandra Sue Hammond of Harmony, Sharon Lee Wooters of Denton, and Wanda Collins and her husband Robert Allen Collins of Delmar; one niece, Melissa Pilkenton of Starr; and one nephew, Gary Pilkenton of Seaford. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Thomas Pilkenton. The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second Street, Denton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The interment will be in the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Beulah near Hurlock.
