Wallace William Taylor Jr.

DOVER - Wallace William "Bill" Taylor Jr., 86, of Dover, passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was born on Nov. 28, 1923, in Winsted, Conn., to Wallace and Estelle Davis Taylor Sr. He graduated from Gilbert School and later received degrees from Emory University and the University of Georgia. During World War II he served for almost the full duration of the war in the U. S. Army, in the European Theatre of Operations. During that time he was badly wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He spent most of his professional career in the field of education. Mr. Taylor first worked as Dean of Men at Bowling Green State University. Later, he worked as Dean of Students and Assistant to the President at the State University of New York, College at Cortland. Among his non-professional interests, he served as councilman in Bowling Green, Ohio, and later held the position of trustee in Homer, N.Y. Being interested in historic preservation, he was a member and president of the Cortland County Historical Society. Mr. Taylor was a member and life-long supporter of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. For his contributions to the organization, he was honored to be initiated into the Arch Chapter. Mr. Taylor also had many hobbies including model ship-building, oil painting, porcelain repair, jewelry designing, growing prize-winning roses, and collecting antiques. He is survived by his wife, Carol Lenz Taylor; his son and his wife, Mark and Jodi Taylor; grandchildren, Casey and Geoffrey Taylor; and six nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be 11:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Smyrna. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. at the Christ Church Yard. The family requests, that memorial contributions be given to St. Peter's Episcopal Church Smyrna, and or The Salvation Army.
