Wallace F. McFaul Jr. 'Wally', 84
MILFORD - Wallace F. "Wally" McFaul Jr., passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009, in Delaware Veterans Home, Milford. He was 84. Mr. McFaul was born August 17, 1924 in Milford, son of the late Wallace F. and Ray (Price) McFaul. He graduated from Milford High School with the Class of 1942. Mr. McFaul was a veteran of the United States Army, being called to active duty in 1943, he served during World War II in the European Theater and was discharged with honor in 1945. In 1946 he attended the University of Delaware, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity, graduating in 1950 with a Civil Engineering Degree. Mr. McFaul was employed for several years as an engineer with the State of Delaware in Kent County, after which he worked in the same capacity for 5 years with various contractors in the area. He spent 10 years as the owner and operator of Shore Construction Service, leaving his business to accept a position with the Department of Defense as the Deputy Base Civil Engineer at the Dover Air Force Base which he held for 23 years, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed reading, traveling, late night radio, his Slaughter Beach home, where he served for 6 years on the Slaughter Beach Town Council, and most importantly time spent with his four daughters and their families. Mr. McFaul served 6 years as a Kent County Jury Commissioner, 4 years as a commissioner with Water and Air Resources, was a member and past president of the Dover Optimist Club, and a founding member of the Kent Swim Club in Dover. In addition to his parents, Mr. McFaul was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Grant McFaul; and a brother, Joseph H. McFaul. He is survived by his four daughters, Diane McFaul Hindman of Dover, Joanie McFaul McMurtry and her husband Phil of Woodbridge, Va., Meg McFaul Cahill of New Orleans, La., and Claire McFaul Hale of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Roslyn "Sharpy" McFaul of Felton; nine grandchildren, Jay Cahill, Joanie Cahill, Matt Cahill, Dan Hindman, Jerry Hindman, Mark McMurtry, Margaret Anne McMurtry, Jeff McMurtry, and Brennan Hale; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Wally's Life was 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends called two hours prior. Interment was in the Milford Community Cemetery on North Walnut Street. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Milford Public Library, 11 S.E.
