Aspinwall, 96 DOVER - Wallace Elmer Aspinwall, 96, of Dover, Delaware, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014. He had previously resided in Berlin, Maryland, and Malvern, Pennsylvania. He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on August 21, 1918. He grew up in Englewood, New Jersey and graduated from Dwight Morrow High School in 1938. He attended Shippensburg State Teachers College (now Shippensburg University) between1939 and 1942. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army and became a member of the Army Air Forces. He was stationed at Keesler Field, Biloxi, Mississippi, and Apalachicola Army Airfield, Florida, where he taught airplane mechanics to other service personnel. While in the Army Air Forces, he married his college sweetheart, Jean Green, on July 4, 1944. The first child, Wallace L. Aspinwall, soon followed. After the war ended, he returned to Shippensburg State Teachers College to complete is Bachelors Degree in Education, graduating in 1948. He was a dedicated elementary school teacher at Green Tree Elementary School in Paoli, in the Great Valley School District, where he spent 30 years teaching 6th Grade Math and Science. He was affectionately known to everyone as "Mr. A.". He retired in 1979 to his summer home outside Ocean City, Maryland. He was a Past Master of Thomson Lodge No. 340 F. &A.M. in Paoli, and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason with the Valley of Reading. He had served as a member of the Advisory Council of Valley Forge Chapter, Order of DeMolay, also located in Paoli. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Williams Aspinwall and Freda Evers Aspinwall, siblings Kenneth, Edna, William, and Harold, and in 2010 by his wife of 66 years, Jean. He is survived by his four children: Wallace L. and wife Phyllis of Waldron, AR; Virginia Goldfarb and husband Elliot of O'Fallon, MO; Douglas L. and wife Linda of Hartly, DE; and Sherri Moore of Hartly, DE. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Wallace's life celebration service on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11am at Mauger-Givnish Funeral Home 24 Monument Avenue Malvern, PA, where friends may visit on Friday evening from 7-9pm and Saturday morning from 10-11am. A Masonic service will be held on Friday at 8:00pm at the funeral home. Interment Good Samaritan Cemetery, Paoli, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011.
