Wallace D. 'Wally' Miller, 81
WORTON, Md. - Wallace D. "Wally" Miller, of Worton, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis. He was 81.
Mr. Miller was born in Elkton on Aug. 23, 1926, son of the late Daniel and Elizabeth (McFadden) Miller.
He graduated from Rock Hall High School and served his country as a decorated fighter pilot with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged.
Mr. Miller returned to Rock Hall and worked as a game warden.
He married to Audrey Dill, and she predeceased him in September 1983.
Mr. Miller managed Walnut Point Farm as an aquaculture specialist and director of fisheries in conjunction with the University of Maryland and the USDA. He oversaw the operations, seminars/education and hybrid striped bass fisheries aquaculture program on the farm until his retirement in 1998.
A political enthusiast and community devoted citizen, he served three terms as Kent County commissioner, as a board member with Kent County Planning and Zoning, Parks and Recreation, and Kent County Public Landing
Mr. Miller served 12 years on Kent County School Board and six years on the Chesapeake College board of trustees.
He also served on the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Commission, State Library Advisory Board and the Seafood Marketing Commission.
Mr. Miller married Mary Beth Berger Clark in November 1986.
He was a member of Chester Lodge 115 A.F.& A.M., Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36 in Chestertown, and Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Rock Hall.
Mr. Miller enjoyed gardening, growing hybrid plants, hunting, fishing, the environment and politics.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Heather DiLaurenzio of Chestertown and Hilary Miller of Columbia; four stepchildren, Cheryl Luchento of New Jersey, David Clark Jr. and James Clark, both of Florida, and Deborah Dunnigan of Virginia; his grandchildren, Hilary, Michael, Amanda, Casey and Justin; a close friend, John Dolgos; and many others.
Services will be held at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 1, at 1 p.m.
Interment will be held privately.
