Virginia McFarland Short

DOVER - Virginia McFarland Short "Ginnie" passed away Tuesday April 29, 2014 at Kent General Hospital. She was born Dec. 7, 1931 in Boothwyn, Pa. to the late Finley Earl McFarland and Gertrude Elizabeth Pawn McFarland. Moving to the Hartly/Dover area in 1945. Mrs. Short worked as a caregiver at Kent General Hospital and Courtland Manor, and was an Avon Sales Representative for 20 years. She was a life member of the Frederica Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she had been President from 1954 to 1969, as well as a member of the Leipsic Fire Company and EMT. Mrs. Short was also a member of the Cornerstone Church formerly the First Southern Baptist Church, of Dover, and was on several committees within the church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Charles Heverin Short, 1/4/2014; and granddaughter, Stephanie Renee Ellis. She is survived by her children, Carol Dill and her husband Walter, of Felton, David Ellis and his wife Lynn, of Madison, Ala., Linda Short and her husband Wayne of Milford, Donald Ellis of Kenilworth, N.J, and Charlene Moss and her husband David, of Hartly; also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Monday, May 5, 2014 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday evening. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
