DOVER - Virginia Josephine Adams passed away July 4, 2018 at Kent General Hospital.
She was born Oct. 8, 1929 in New Hope Ala., to the late Allen and Etoile Williams. She was a graduate of Coffeeville High School in Florence, Ala. and held a B.S. Degree from Florence State Teacher's College and a Master's Degree from the Carver School of Missions in Louisville, Ky. Virginia taught 2nd grade at the Allen Frear Elementary School for 30 years.
Virginia loved her students. Shopping in the mall was time-consuming because she was always bumping into one of her students. Long into her retirement she talked lovingly about her school children. She was very active in her church, New Harvest Baptist Church in Dover. Over the years she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, and served on mission trip teams to Scotland. She loved people---and they loved her.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charles W. Adams, who died in 2002; her parents; and her siblings, Bruce, Mary Lee, Jim, and Robert.
She is survived by her siblings, Charles of Florence, Ala. and Sue of Huntsville, Ala. as well as her children, Mark (and his wife Sue Adams) of Derwood, Md., Jon (and his wife Karen) of Sunderland, Md., Matt (and his wife Debbie) of Kansas City, Ks., and Elisa (and her spouse Joline) of Solebury, Pa. and countless friends who have "stuck closer than a brother." Proverbs 18:24.
Virginia had seven grandchildren, (Daniel, Sarah, Becca, Kate, David, Laura, and Rose) and three great-grandchildren, (Lydia, Joel, and Nathan) all of whom she loved dearly.
A service to celebrate her life and glorify our Heavenly Father will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, July 7, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (RT.10), Dover. Friends may call from 10-12, with burial to follow at Sharon Hill Cemetery (2828 Sharon Hill Road, Dover).
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the building fund at New Harvest Baptist Church or to the American Diabetes Association.
Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
