Virginia G. Vapaa, 96

DOVER - Virginia G. Vapaa of Dover passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, in Wilmington. She was 96.

Mrs. Vapaa was born Sept. 22, 1910, in Farmington, daughter of the late William and Anneata (Lynch) Griffith.

She was a 1928 graduate of Harrington High School and earned a diploma in elementary teaching from the University of Delaware in 1930.

She was a homemaker who taught school in Harrington and the Caesar Rodney area until her son was born.

Mrs. Vapaa was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and an active participant in the United Methodist Women's Society. She volunteered at the Blood Bank of Delaware, Dover for many years, serving refreshments to donors. She was faithful to her commitments to the Blood Bank and the church, where she counted the offering every Monday until her failing eyesight made it impossible to continue. Loss of her vision restricted her participation in many activities but not her enjoyment of time she spent with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George K. Vapaa in 1976.

She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, George G. and Andrea Vapaa of Wilmington; a grandson, Stefan K. Vapaa of Wilmington; and a granddaughter, Miranda L. Freeman of Durham, N.C.

Remembrance services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday in Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be in Barretts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901.
