HARRINGTON - Violet Sherman Murray, departed life Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at the end of a peaceful day surrounded by her family, in the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. Violet was born in Milton, and was proud to call Sussex County her home for most of her life. She was the daughter of Arthur and Dorothy Elizabeth Warrington Sherman, of Milton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Sherman. Violet worked for Marclay Mills in Milford, for many years, then went to work for the State of Delaware at the Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna, from which she retired several years ago. Violet was a dedicated worker and truly loved the residents at the hospital. She volunteered many additional hours with the residents and enjoyed being part of their lives. After retirement, Violet became active in the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, as well as the Senior Centers in Milton and Milford. She was active with the Moose Lodge in Milford and enjoyed being a Red Hatter. Violet loved to travel and spent time in Florida with her daughter, Debbie. She loved music and loved flowers. She was proud of her yard and worked hard to make it pretty. Violet was a huge fan of Joe Biden and was ecstatic when he was elected Vice President. She counted him as her friend and it was gratifying to her family that he called on her last day. Violet leaves three sons, Arthur Sherman and his wife Barbara, of Lincoln, Daniel Brown and his wife Vicky, of Harrington, and Thomas B. Brown and his wife Anita, of Magnolia; two daughters, Debbie Franco, of Miami, Fla., and Rose Sparkman and her husband Joe, of Oklahoma; a step-son, Richard Brown and his wife Mary, of Dover; a step-daughter, Joyce Groton, of Easton, Md; grandchildren, Sherry, Michael, Danny Jr., Brandon, Bobby, Candice, Jonie, Dusty, Jeremy, J.D., Shayna, Krysta, Trey, Meredith, Stacey and Lance; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Sherman, of Milton; a sister, Jeannette; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Violet had many wonderful friends and will be missed by her best friend, Harriet Long. Services and burial will be private, at the wishes of her family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the Milton Historical Society.
