Viola Catherine Clark, 98 OCEAN VIEW - Viola Catherine Clark, 98, of Ocean View, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center in Rising Sun, Md. She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother, whose greatest joy in life was giving love and providing for the happiness and well-being of her husband, children and grandchildren, as well as friends and relatives. She was known for her cooking, flower gardening, needlework, friendliness and love of children. Anyone who ever met Viola liked her immediately and had their lives enriched by the experience. Longtime members of Ocean View Church of Christ, Viola and her husband Bill were strong, determined Christians whose witness was responsible for leading their children and several grandchildren to Jesus. The great-granddaughter of legendary Ocean City, Md., resident Zipporah "Zippy" Lewis, Viola was preceded in death by her parents, Archie "Frank" Savage and Gretchen Wainwright Savage; her husband of 61 years, William "Bill" Clark; her first husband, Otho Francis Nelson (drowned 1930); her siblings James Frank Savage, George Edward Savage, A. Frank Savage Jr., Ormil Savage, Hilda Mae Marvel and Gretchen Virginia Savage; and children Frank Nelson and Elton Nelson. She is survived by her daughters Ella McMenamin of Barto, Penn., Norma Mulherin and son-in-law Charles Mulherin of Princess Anne, Md., Joyce Worrell of Kerrville, Texas, and Karen Kennedy and son-in-law Michael Kennedy of Bel Air, Md.; 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Hitchens and Irma Timmons; brothers-in-law, Harry Timmons and Elwood Marvel; and sister-in-law, Mary Savage. Funeral service and celebration of Viola's life will be 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street, Frankford, where friends may call after noon. Interment will be in Saint George's Cemetery, Clarksville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ocean View Church of Christ, 51 West Avenue, Ocean View, DE 19970-9420.
