Verna Lyle (Lodge) Walls, 82

MILFORD - Verna Lyle (Lodge) Walls, of Milford, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, in Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 82. Mrs. Walls was born in Milford, the daughter of the late John F. and Emma (Young) Lodge. She was a graduate of Milford High School and of the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Wilmington in 1948. She worked as a registered nurse at Milford Memorial Hospital, an office nurse for John B. Baker, MD in Milford and a school nurse in the Milford School District before retiring in 1988. Mrs. Walls was a lifetime member of Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was instrumental in establishing the Wellness Ministry. She was a member of the Milford Garden Club, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Milford New Century Club. She was a Girl Scout leader for both troops 19 and 45. She served on the Milford Planning and Zoning Commission. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas S. Walls in 1999. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra L. and Charles R. Culotta and Deborah W. and F. Brooke Clendaniel, all of Milford; a sister, Anne Thomas, of Wilson, N.C.; six grandchildren, Ian B. Clendaniel and his wife Jennifer, Keith T. Clendaniel and his wife Lindsay, Charles H. McKinney III and his wife Teresa, Charles R. Culotta II, F. Todd Culotta and his wife Kalle and Andrew T. Culotta; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Colman; a nephew, Mark Willey and great nieces and great nephews. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at Avenue U. M. Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to either the Milford Garden Club, c/o Mrs. Barbara Derue, 17 E. Bullrush Dr., Milford, DE 19963 or to the Avenue U. M. Church Health Ministries, 20 N. Church St., Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford.
