BETHANY BEACH - Velma B. Schenk, of Bethany Beach, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, surrounded by her family. She was 85.
She and her husband, Dwight had been married for 68 years before his recent passing on Feb. 7, 2008.
She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Walter in Aberdeen, Md., for many years before retiring in the early 1970s.
Velma and Dwight then traveled extensively throughout Central and North America.
They also owned and operated Lake Forest Campground in Deep Creek Lake, Md., for 20 years.
Velma is survived by her four daughters, Carole Lindes and Donna Wade of Bethany Beach, Ellie Garrison of Aberdeen, Md., Vickie Frazier of Ocean City, Md.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elinore Browning of Bethany Beach, and Norma Bolding of Oakland, Md.
A memorial service for Velma and Dwight at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Oakland, is being planned.
Throughout her life, Velma enjoyed the companionship of her many pets and always became a trusted friend to any lucky stray animal that happened upon her doorstep.
With that in mind, the family suggests that donations in her memory be made to the Worcester County Humane Society, P.O. Box 48, Berlin, MD 21811.
Arrangements by Melson Funeral Services of Ocean View.
