Thomas Lee Bennett
Today, March 6, 2023, Thomas Lee Bennett left this world for the great unknown. He left behind the love of his life, Darlene Marie, for more than 60 years, 56 of those were with wedded bliss. He also left behind several other people that he loved dearly; his son Robert Bennett and his wife Kelly, his daughter Heidi and her husband Kevin Gallagher; he also leaves five grandchildren that were the idols of his life: Andrew Bennett, Jamie Bennett, Patrick Gallagher and his wife Kacey Gallagher and Ryan Gallagher.
He was predeceased in life by his father Kenneth, his brother Robert, his sister Alice May and his mother. He is survived by two brothers Kenneth and David.
Thomas was a shootist and enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren how to handle and enjoy shooting all his guns. Passing them on to his family was one of the pleasures that he had.
He was a Sparta High School graduate class of 1962 at which time he entered the United States Navy. After serving 4 years and 1 month he came home to marry his love Darlene. He was a proud American flying the flag at his home all the time.
Thomas and his wife Darlene were the owners of Bennett's Men's Shop in Sparta, NJ for more than ten years. Opening in 1987 after having built the shopping center at 155 Woodport Road in Sparta. After closing he worked for Rayewood Trailers and Pleasant Acres Sales as the service manager before he and his wife retired to Delaware.
Private service will be held later at the Veterans Cemetery in Sparta, NJ. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516. Online condolences may be made via
