DOVER - Thelma H. Blackman passed away Monday, July 18, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. She was 81. Thelma was born in Point Pleasant, N.J., daughter of the late Kristine and Charles Hankins. She was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School and Edgewood Park College. Her family established the Lavallette boat building firm of Charles Hankins and Sons in 1912. They produced award winning Jersey Sea Skiffs and other small crafts. Thelma was an accomplished competitive sailor. She cherished the times spent on her beloved "South Wind" and readily shared her passion for sailing and true culinary skills with friends and family. Thelma also valued a long and devoted career as a medical secretary to Dr. Frank Brown in the Point Pleasant area. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert M. Blackman, Jr.; and brothers, Charles E. and James Hankins. She is survived by her nieces, Barbara Rynkowski, Valery Cordrey, Sharon Sherwood and Cheryl Blackman; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Blackman and Shirley Bennett. Services are private. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Manasquan, N.J. In lieu of flowers, Thelma's request were for gifts to Kent County S.P.C.A., 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
