HOUSTON, TEXAS - Terry Lynn Shaw passed away on Aug. 7, 2018. Terry was born Sept. 28, 1961, in Greenville, S.C., and graduated from Milford High School of Delaware in 1980. Terry made his life an adventure spending a few of his post high school years in California and later made a move to Houston, Texas in 1983 where he would settle and make the city home. He was proud of his travel experiences he had made in Europe. He spent many years of his professional life as a florist, and he managed several floral stores in the Houston area for some time. He had a truly amazing, creative talent in floral design that earned him a reputation in the Houston area amongst his colleagues, customers, and friends alike.
In 2012, Terry faced a most challenging life event when he fell and suffered a traumatic brain injury. With his most unusual strength, resilience, and courage, he, against all odds, recovered amazingly well and was able to again live independently in 2014.
Terry could arguably have earned many votes from those who knew him as a "most unforgettable character" in many ways. He had a zest for fun in life which leaves us all with many memories of him. He rarely met a person to whom he did not speak and leave without a lasting impression. Terry became a member of St. Philip's United Methodist Church in Houston in 2013, where he particularly enjoyed socializing after Sunday service and during special church events.
Terry is preceded in death by his mother and father, Delores J. Shaw who passed in 2010 and James Shaw who passed in 2012, of Woodside, Del.; and his brother, Robert B. Shaw who passed in 2007. He is survived by his loving sister, Julie Legates and her husband Robert of Millsboro; three brothers, Michael Shaw and his wife Diane of New Castle, James Shaw and his wife Clare of Milford, and Richard Shaw of Woodside; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Terry is also survived and will be missed greatly by his long-time best friend, "adopted brother," and devoted caregiver David Laxson of Houston and David's mother, Betsy, who Terry called his "Mom #2."
A memorial service will be held at St. Philip's United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.
Memorial contributions can be made to either Houston Hospice or the American Cancer Society in memory of Terry Lynn Shaw, respectively at http://houstonhospice.org/donate.aspx or https://donate3.cancer.org
