Mr. Byrd was born Jan. 30, 1958, in Philadelphia, son of Edgar Wilson of Philadelphia and Elaine Ayres of Dover, Del., and stepson of Johnny Ayres Jr. of Snow Hill.

He was educated in the public schools of Snow Hill, Worcester County. He graduated from Strayer University, Baltimore.

Upon moving to Washington, he became a member of Canaan Baptist Church. When he returned to the Eastern Shore, he reunited with Mount Wesley. While living in East New Market, he fell in love with the members of the East New Market-Linkwood Charge.
